Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative
Baby-Friendly is, “a global program that was launched by (WHO) & (UNICEF) to recognize hospitals that offer an optimal level of care for infant feeding & mother/baby bonding.

The Montana Nutrition & Physical Activity Program (NAPA) recognizes that infant nutrition is a public health issue. NAPA is supporting Montana birthing facilities as they work to attain Baby-Friendly designation. Is your hospital interested in becoming Baby-Friendly? Contact NAPA below.

Rural Breastfeeding Support Initiatives

The Montana Rural Breastfeeding Support Initiative, in partnership with the Montana Hospital Association (MHA), provides 3 no cost lactation training opportunities for MT Critical Access Hospitals to support breastfeeding in their rural communities.
Certified Lactation Counselor Scholarship (CLC) To support trained lactation staff at Montana Critical Access Hospitals, MT NAPA & MHA offer scholarships ($825) to complete the 90- hour virtual CLC Certification: Next Application Cycle: Fall 2025 (Limited to MT Critical Access Hospital staff).

Train the Trainer Breastfeeding Training. To increase staff lactation education opportunities in rural communities a NO-COST, 4- hour intro breastfeeding training is available for CAH facility/community healthcare workers. In person & virtual Training option available. Schedule training HERE

Breastfeeding Learning Conference . Scholarships for CAH staff to attend the Annual MT Breastfeeding Learning Conference at Fairmont Hot Springs will be available Spring 2026.
